Apartment in San Gimignano, Italy in the medieval heart of the city. This imposing apartment is in the very heart of the medieval town of San Gimignano with its shops, restuarants and cafés. It has been restored to a high standard with attention to maintaining its character as "L'Antica Posta" the medieval post office of the town, infact the current post office is to this day nextdoor in the same building.
Entrance hall with small sitting area and antique well, staircase leading to first floor gallery with two large windows opening on to the side of the cathedral and settee (which converts to a bed to accommodate a fifth person); spacious living room with lounge area with traditional woodburning fireplace, two windows opening on to the side of the cathedral, settee and two armchairs, divided by an archway from the dining area with table and chairs; simple fully equipped kitchen with fridge, cooker (4 gas rings and electric oven), small table and three chairs; small bedroom with double bed; large bedroom with double bed and bathroom with small bath with hand shower, basin, w.c. and bidet. Central heating.
In the entrance hall is a well dating back to the time the building housed the post office's team of horses. The apartment private entrance is next to the cathedral and from here looking to your left you will see, as illustrated above, the Piazza dell'Erbe with the "torri gemelle" the twin towers which were built in 1200 as a symbol of the power of the famous Salvucci family and looking to your right you will see the entrance to the La Rocca hilltop park where you can relax amidst the tops of the towers and enjoy the most fantastic panorama of the surrounding countryside. The centre of the park is surrounded by medieval walls which once contained the summer residence of the powerful Medici family. The park is a very special place, you will always find here in some hidden corner an artist painting the amazing view or a musician playing his flute. In the entrance to the apartment you will find folding chairs which you can take to the park.
The apartment is most spacious and very comfortably furnished. Both its bedrooms enjoy a fine view over the rooftops of the old town and the convent of Sant'Agostino to the hills of the surrounding countryside of San Gimignano, Italy. It has a traditional atmosphere with terracotta floors, beamed ceilings and archways. You may relax by the medieval well in the sitting area of the entrance hall or in front of the traditional woodburning fireplace in the spacious lounge, or in the gallery which with its two large windows open has the feeling of a balcony.
On leaving the apartment just a few steps will lead you to uncovering countless treasures, as you walk through the Piazza del Duomo with its splendid cathedral housing beautiful frescoes, and on into Piazza della Cisterna with its famous well and magnificent medieval palaces, a perfect place for sitting down at an open air café and watching the world go by in San Gimignano, Italy.

Thank you for writing and I am happy to make a few comments. You and your group did a fine job in helping John and me find a (temporary albeit) home in San Giomignano. You were prompt, efficient, and very pleasant.
We enjoyed Antico Posta very much. The owner and her husband met us in the piazza, took us to the apartment, helped with information, and had located a parking place outside the walls. As in many Tuscan towns, as you know, traffic is restricted in the old towns and locating parking can be a challenge. San Giomignano is, as you no doubt know, a very "touristy" town and can be very busy during the day with bus tours arriving non-stop from Siena and Florence. However, all one has to do is get off the main street and one finds a "real" town. There are several lovely churches, museums, and galleries which are off the tourist path and are interesting and delightfully quiet. At night and in the early morning before the tour buses arrive, the town is peaceful and that is a good time for exploring.
The apartment was all we had hoped for: comfortable, simply furnished including some tasteful antiques. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking supplies. John and I especially enjoyed the small balcony space off the kitchen where we watched the daylight fading over the Tuscan hills with a glass of Tuscan wine.
I would certainly recommend this accommodation and would request to stay there again.
Many thanks again for all your help and courtesy.
